Maternal Health

Women of color, specifically, black women, are three times more likely to die from a pregnancy-related cause than white women. Multiple factors contribute to these disparities, such as variation in quality of healthcare, underlying chronic conditions, structural racism, and implicit bias. The Exotic Fruit Foundation partners with local health organizations to raise awareness in an effort to prevent pregnancy-related deaths and improve maternal health outcomes before and during pregnancy, at childbirth and during the postpartum period.
